Candidate Statement - Kyrkjebø

Nomination for IDPF Board of Directors, November 2011 election

Arne Kyrkjebø - Norwegian Library of Talking Books and Braille (NLB)

Dear IDPF members

I am asking for your vote in the upcoming election for the IDPF Board seat.

I am 45 years old living just outside Oslo, the capital of Norway. I am head of the production department at the Norwegian Library for Talking Books and Braille (NLB). NLB is a governmental library providing library services to visually impaired and reading disabled. I am representing the Norwegian DAISY Consortium at the International DAISY Consortium Board. I also held the position as the Treasurer in the international DAISY Consortium. I have worked 8 years at NLB.

I consider a seat at the IDPF Board as a great opportunity for me both professionally and personally. IDPF is in a very exciting phase launching the EPUB3-standard which is a great step forward when it comes to produce advanced ebooks. By adopting the EPUB-standard as our standard,  The DAISY Consortium’s future road will be closed tied to the decisions made in IDPF.  In my position as production manager at NLB I will be responsible for implementing EPUB3 as a production standard for our products. This will also include close contact with the publishing industry in Norway in order to find new cooperation models. A seat in the IDPF Board will be of great value in this work. I also believe and hope that this is experience that is useful to have in the IDPF Board.

I humbly ask for your vote. I want to see the IDPF through to a place where rich XML content can be used by everybody in the global society through powerful, highly-functional reading systems. I want to see the publishing industry thrive in a global marketplace where hungry readers enjoy the new digital reading experience.
