What is AudioPlayer for?

Hello all,

As I am working with the Readium code, I see a lot of code for an AudioPlayer in both the Javascript and the CSS. I am trying to figure out whether this is for embedded audio in EPUBs or for some additional functionality like spoken word accompaniment. Does anyone know? I apologize for seeming a little oblivious but I figured it would be the easiest just to ask in case someone better understands it, and save myself some time.

It is for media overlays, which provide spoken accompaniment for books. Examples of books which demonstrate this can be found here:

EPUB 3 also supports video and audio embedded in the book, but we just pass those streams directly to the browser. The audio engine you refer to is specifically for media-overlays. You can learn more about media overlays here:
