IDPF Board Nominations Open Through October 28, 2011
October 10, 2011
A self-nomination period is now open for an election to fill seven positions on the IDPF Board of Directors. Six of the seven positions will fill board seats that are new or vacant (pursuant to the recently approved expansion of the IDPF Board from 9 to 14 members). The nomination period is from October 11 through October 28, 2011.
Primary Representatives of IDPF Members may self-nominate by emailing a request to Bill McCoy at bmccoy@idpf.org. Typically, a candidate would include a nomination statement which could include reasons for running for the position, a brief biography, and/or general vision or ideas for the IDPF. Nominations will be posted on the IDPF website.
Being a Board member of the IDPF requires a commitment in terms of responsibility and time. The Board currently meets monthly via teleconference and usually meets once a year in a face-to-face meeting. Time commitment costs and expenses are not reimbursed. Board members should be leaders in their companies or organizations and have a clear understanding of the digital publishing/eBook industry. Board oversight responsibility extends to the specification approval process so knowledge of adopted technologies is helpful.
The IDPF Board's core responsibilities include representing member interests in developing the vision and strategic plan for the organization and providing oversight and guidance to staff and volunteers carrying out the work of the organization. Additionally, IDPF Board members frequently become involved in the hands-on work of the organization, such as in representing the organization at events.
After the nomination period, it is anticipated that an remote vote (email election) will be held from November 1, 2011 through November 21, 2011. The seven seats will be awarded to the top seven vote getters, for terms of two years beginning December 1, 2011.
