Call for review: second public draft of EPUB Indexes specification

On November 7, 2013 the IDPF Board of Directors unanimously approved publication of a second Public Draft of EPUB Indexes 1.0. EPUB Indexes, developed by the EPUB Indexes Working Group, defines a consistent way of encoding the structure and content of indexes in EPUB Publications. Reading Systems can exploit this encoding to offer not only the benefits of a print index but also interactive functionality and features not possible in a print book. The draft specification is available at: http://www.idpf.org/epub/idx/ . Comments on the second draft specification are solicited through December 3, 2013.

Call for Review - Public Draft of EPUB 3.0.1

On November 7, 2013 the IDPF Board of Directors unanimously approved elevation of EPUB 3.0.1 to public draft status. EPUB 3.0.1, developed by the EPUB Working Group, is a backwards-compatible minor update to EPUB 3 intended to address a number of minor errata and issues in EPUB 3.0, improve alignment with the latest Open Web Platform specifications, and provide extension points for modular extensions to EPUB that are presently under development. Comments on the draft specification are solicited through December 3, 2013.

AAP EPUB 3 Implementation White Paper Now Available

As part of the ongoing EPUB 3 Implementation Project the Association for American Publishers (AAP) has made available a white paper that documents several outcomes of the cross-industry initiative, including the top 10 features deemed most critical for immediate implementation by participating publishers and reading system developers, as well as the top 13 tips for content publishers to create accessible EPUB 3 publications. Announcing New Delhi Seminar on EPUB and Open Web Platform (Nov. 30)

On Saturday, November 30, 2013, New Delhi will be the venue for an IDPF technical seminar on EPUB and the Open Web Platform for Publishers. Hosted by Adobe Systems at their Noida campus, the all-day event (9:00am-17:00pm) will cover the latest developments in EPUB 3, HTML5, and the Open Web Platform, aiming to give senior leaders and technologists at publishers and solution providers the information they need to know to efficiently create and distribute eBooks and other digital publications. On Tuesday October 8 the new CONTEC digital conference will open the Frankfurt Book Fair, and on Thursday October 10 IDPF has organized a morning seminar on eBook design. EDUPUB Workshop Agenda Available

IDPF Member Open Meeting at Frankfurt

IDPF will hold an open forum for members on Tuesday, October 8 from 14:00-15:30. IDPF Executive Director Bill McCoy and IDPF CTO Markus Gylling will provide a brief overview of the latest developments and upcoming roadmap for the EPUB standard, and with several IDPF Board Members on hand the majority of the time will be spent in Q&A and open discussion with attendees. The meeting will be at the Frankfurt Marriott, just outside the trade show grounds, in the Gold 3 room. Space was generously provided by Frankfurt Academy and CONTEC Frankfurt. EDUPUB is a workshop focused on advancing effective adoption of e-textbooks and other digital learning materials via EPUB 3 and the Open Web Platform.
