IDPF and Korean Government Agency Agree on Collaboration
Seoul, July 10, 2012 (NEWS RELEASE) - The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) and Korea Education & Research Information Service (KERIS) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to advance the standardization of digital publishing technology in South Korea. Signed today in Seoul by KERIS President Chulkyun Kim and IDPF Executive Director Bill McCoy, the MOU provides for a number of measures to advance the adoption and quality of digital textbooks and other publications based on the EPUB standard. These cover translation of EPUB specifications to Korean, adoption of EPUB as a Korean National Standard, and pursuing International Standardization (ISO-level) of EPUB 3. “Korea has been a world leader in early adoption of key digital technologies”, said McCoy. “As EPUB 3 has already been specified as a preferred format for e-textbooks in Korea, and is anticipated to be adopted for next-generation digital textbooks, it is natural for IDPF to pursue closer collaboration with Korea to advance our mutual goals for EPUB as the universal, accessible global format for eBooks and other digital publications”.
