I am working on my master thesis about e-book formats, and I can't seem to find any citable information about the sound support in EPUB 2. I would be very glad if you could provide me with some valuable info. Thank you

EPUB 2 did not support audio. That was added with HTML5 support in EPUB 3. Some reading systems (e.g. Adobe Digital Editions) did support audio (and video) but it was unofficial.
