Candidate Statement - Angela Bole

Nomination for IDPF Board of Directors, November 2011 election

Angela Bole - Book Industry Study Group (BISG)
I believe there are significant benefits to much closer collaboration between BISG and IDPF in the development and maintenance of EPUB, the promotion of the standard to the publishing industry, and the development of complimentary educational events. My appointment to the Board will give IDPF a direct view into BISG activities related to metadata best practices and the identification of digital products, to name only two. Also, I have been working within BISG to develop and support national and international standards since 2004. My current relationships with other national and international standards-bodies will be an asset to the IDPF Board.
Angela Bole was appointed Deputy Executive Director of the Book Industry Study Group, Inc. (BISG) in March 2009, having previously served two years as Associate Director and two years as Marketing and Communications Manager. Working closely with members and non-members alike, Angela has been instrumental in furthering BISG’s mission of creating a more informed, empowered and efficient book industry supply chain for both physical and digital products. Prior to becoming Deputy Executive Director, Angela spent a year and a half working with InformationWeek’s David Berlind at UBM TechWeb, an international organization that connects business and technology professionals with resources that help them make smarter decisions.
Angela has English Literature and Gender Studies degrees from Indiana University Bloomington and a Masters Degree in Book Publishing from New York University. She is an active member of the Women’s Media Group, a New York-based nonprofit association of women who have achieved prominence in the many fields of media.
