IDPF Digital Book 2014 at BEA Expands to Two Full Days, Adds BISG Making Information Pay

IDPF Digital Book 2014 conference will take place May 28-29 at NYC Javits Center during BookExpo America, and is now open for early-bird registration at The longest-running digital publishing conference in the industry will this year expand to two full days and add significant new "Big Data" content with the colocation of BISG Making Information Pay as a new track on the afternoon of May 29.

EPUB Specs in Public Review: Multiple Renditions, Region-Based Navigation, Previews

A public and member review is under way through January 15, 2014 for several modular specifications produced by the Advanced-Hybrid Layout Working Group, working under a charter approved in November, 2012. The specifications, elevated by the IDPF Board to Public Draft status on December 12, include EPUB Previews, EPUB Multiple Renditions, and EPUB Region-Based Navigation and the related Magazine Structural Vocabulary.

IDPF Board Slate Announced, At-Large Nominations Open Until Jan. 15

The IDPF Board of Directors Nominating Committee has announced a slate of recommended candidates for the upcoming Board election. The committee received over twice as many candidates as available places, but ultimately unanimously agreeed on the slate of seven candidates, which was subsequently approved by the full Board. The candidates are: Paul Belfanti (Pearson), Angela Bole (Independent Book Publishers Association - incumbent), Leslie Hulse (HarperCollins - incumbent), Rick Johnson (Vital Source Technologies), Bill Kasdorf (Apex Covantage), Liisa McCloy-Kelley (Penguin Random House - Incumbent), and Junichi Yoshii (Kodansha). Eight seats will be filled in this cycle so at least one "at large" candidate will be elected. Nominations for "at large" candidates are open through January 15, 2014. Any primary representative of an IDPF member organization is eligible to stand for election and the eight candidates receiving the most votes will be elected. IDPF Digital Book 2014: Call For Speakers

A call for speakers is now open for IDPF Digital Book 2014 at BookExpo America (May 28-29, NYC Javits Center). IDPF Digital Book at BEA is a multi-faceted conference geared towards leaders and professionals across the industry from publishers and editors to the production team, distributors, programmers and developers, marketers, and executives. DB14 will include three content tracks targeting business & marketing, technology & production , and education & STM publishing. Over 1,000 attendees are expected. Open Annotations in EPUB Kicks Off

Nominating Committee Seeking Candidates for IDPF Board - Apply by Dec. 3

The IDPF Board of Directors has formed a 2014 Nominating Committee, which is soliciting candidates for Director positions. Every primary representative of an IDPF member organization is eligible to serve on the board. Interested individuals should send a candidate statement by December 3, 2013 to Typically, a candidate statement would include a brief biography, and potentially reasons for running for the position and/or general vision or ideas for the IDPF. The Committee will also consider as candidates those current board members who wish to continue their service to the IDPF but whose term runs out this year. The IDPF Board's core responsibilities include representing member interests in developing the vision and strategic plan for the organization and providing oversight and guidance to staff and volunteers carrying out the work of the organization. Seven of fourteen seats on the IDPF Board will be elected in this cycle, for two-year terms. The Nominating Committee and IDPF Board anticipates recommending to the membership a slate of five or six candidates, which will leave at least one seat open for at-large election.
